The Iceman Cometh, a complex play, deals on several levels with life's ultimate issues. The play is concerned with murder, suicide, loneliness, guilt, fear of death, the problems of identity, the necessity of illustions, the ambiguities of pity, the nature of truth and the paradox of commitment. The plot takes place in a run-down New York saloon and rooming-house. This is the last play produced in O'Neill's lifetime.
