xiii, 192 pp, brown cloth covered boards w/wht-brown pastedown on the front cover, dj red w/black lettering w/wht front & back illustrated in black & red, illustrated endpapers, inscribed on title page and stamped w/statement "NOTE - The ink used to autograph this book was made with water taken from the C. & O. Canal, by the author at Lock #44, Williamsport, MD. Color added." Includes card for ordering copies of the book, (card states first, second and third editions all had 1500 cc's each available), inscribed & SIGNED by author on the title page. Book tells of esistence of life on the C. & O. Canal, of the boisterous life of "Shanty Town" and provides an insight into the everyday life of the Canallers, the hardships & difficulties & the satisfactions. The Chesapeake and Ohio Canal paralelled the Potomac River from Washington, DC to Cumberland, Maryland, a distance of 185 miles. Used seventy-five locks for eight-foot lift on each. small tear in ffep, prev owner wrote name on ffep.
