255 pp, rust colored cloth covered boards w/blind stamped title on front & gilt lettering on the spine, red-orange endpapers. The book was published for the Bear Run Foundation Inc. and the Edgar J. Kaufmann Charitable Foundation by Horizon PressThe purpose of the book is to bring people the pleasure of seeing Wright's architecture at the stages of conception & first formulation. Only drawings embody these stages that otherwise lie concealed within the buildings or their photographs. A few themes of site or building type serve to characterize the groupings. Wright's drawings tell so much because he refrains from drawing until he has mediatated the building in all essentials. When Wright is finally ready to draw he merely records a vision that has matured to a singleness. Some of the color illustrations are: The Art Museum, Project, Baghdad, Iraq, 1957 and Bailleres House and The Masieri Memorial Building, Project, Venice, Italy, 1953 and Wingspread, Wind Point, Wis, 1937-1938, Herbert F. Johnson Jr.'s Great Residence and others. Many of the drawings are in color. Owner's stamp on the ffep, prev owner wrote on the front pastedown, prev owner's bookplate on the ffep, slight soiling to boards, some wear to corners of the boards.
