xi, 186 pp, light orange cloth covered boards w/black lettering on spine & front w/orange-black deco of three fox heads on spine & orange fox w/cane in orange circle outlined in black on the front, orange fox w/outline in black on back. The original, of which the present poem is a translation, is a burlesque narrative in low-German verse, dated 1481. It pointed out in poignant satire the many vices of the Roman Church of that day. The translator moved the scene of action from Germany to England. The book has twenty-four full page illustrations, plus smaller illustrations on some of the pages. The King Noble orders a public feast for all of his subjects. Reynard the fox does not appear because of the deeds he has done. He is accused before the king by some of the other animals. He receives two summons to appear. He is brought to trial and pardon. But he suffers a relapse and becomes an outlaw. slight soiling to the book, prev owner wrote name on ffep, some soiling to the boards w/several small stains on the front cover.
