558 pp, red cloth covered boards w/gilt lettering, Inscribed & SIGNED by the author on the half title page. He enlisted in the army, he was a middle-aged, quiet-spoken businessman who had earned a fortune. He bought and sold slaves as a business man. This is the story of a man without formal or military training, whose rose from a private in the Confederate army to a Lieutenant General of Cavalry. He had a gift for strategy and whose instinctive perception of the importance of care, feeding & supply of men and horses. After the war he was elected head of the Ku Klux Klan. prev owner wrote under inscription on half title page, some wear to the corners, light stain on ffep, slight rippling to last pages.
