47 pp, quarterbound w/wht papercovered boards w/color illustrastions front & back, w/blu cloth spine. Illustrated by Randolph Caldecott. The original was printed in 1883. The Black Captain was killed at Waterloo and his wife died three days later. This left young Jackanapes an orphan. worn on edges of boards, boards soiled, pages yellowing, rear hinge cracking.

Prev owner's bookplate on ffep, prev owner's name on half title page, edges of boards worn, slight soiling to boards. "Mary's Meadow" first appeared in the Aunt Judy's Magazine from 1883 to 1884. It was the serial the author wrote, and the "Letters from a Little Garden" were published in the same magazine from 1884 to 1885.
