The book is a biography of Charles Rath, Indian fighter, merchant, buffalo hunter, hide buyer, railroad grader, and organizer of early day towns and trading posts. He was a friend of Kit Carson and the Bents and was a maker of trails. Rath surveyed the "trail" across Indian-haunted Staked Plains. Rath City, Texas was the jump-off point of this cattle trail to Dodge City, Kansas. prev owner taped the outside on the dj spine and rear corners.
