Book #20 from the Western Frontier Library. This is one man's account of the West as he knew it. Thomas Edgar Crawford - known variously as "The Texas Kid," "The Montana Kid," "Buckskin," "Kid," and "Ed" early teamed up with such characters as Black Jack Ketchum and Henry Starr. Later he took up ranchin in Montana, he tried gold mining in California and other activities. xvi, 94 pp, green cloth covered boards w/black illustration on the front cover & brown lettering on the spine, Inscribed & SIGNED by Carl Hertzog on Hertzog's private bookplate on copyright page, dj orange w/black lettering & illustration. One of 999 copies. The book was the first book about a major segment of our range country. It was a survey about the early cattle industry. Latham quit the UPS hospital at Laramie to raise cows in Wyoming. The UP gave away thousands of copies of the 88 page booklet to encourage settlement along its lines. Today only a dozen copies are known. A facsimile of the original cover is on the ffep and the rfep has copy of the map that was the back cover of the original booklet. Carl Hertzog was the printer of this edition, Buck Schiwetz did the drawings and Jeff Dykes wrote the introduction, annotated the text, and prepared the appendix.
