This is a facsimile of the reprint. It tells of prison life of a Confederate soldier in a Federal Prison at Camp Morton, Indianapolis, Indiana. The book is an ex-library and has been stamped on the front & rear pastedowns and the front and rear endpapers withdrawn and black marker on the title pages. filed with civil war ephemera.

vii, 375 pp, 32 pp, brown boards w/gilt lettering, dj tan w/black design on front & spine w/red lettering on front & spine. This book is a copy of the original which was published in 1858. This book was originally published as a companion for J. De Cordova's new and correct map of the state of Texas. The author had purchased or otherwise accumulated scrip on a million acres of Texas. This book was a culmination of more than twenty years devoted to stimulating an interest in Texas and in promoting immigration into the state. The book contains brief histories of some of the counties such as Milam, Burnet, Coryell, McLennan, Fayette, and others. The last 32 pages contain "Lecture on Texas" delivered by De Cordova at Philadelphia, New York, Mount Holly, Brooklyn, and New York. Also page read by him before the New York Geographical Society in 1858. reprint of Howes #2726, Sabin 16775, Raines pg 65, Eberstadt #244 & 245. prev owner's stamp (three initials in circle) on the rfep.
