1 Day, James M. Black Beans & Goose Quills : Literature of the Texan Mier Expedtion
Waco, TX Texian Press 1970 Hard Cover Very Good+ Very Good+
vii, 169 pp, grey cloth covered boards w/gilt lettering, glossy red dj w/white lettering w/illustrated front panel. Twice in 1842 Mexican soldiers marched into San Antonio, causing such turmoil that Texas had to retaliate. 305 brash Texans invaded Mexico with the intent of whipping the Mexican army. The story of their capture and imprisonment is one of the tales of Texas. Eighteen of them faced the Mexican firing squad and those who persevered were finally realeased after spending sixteen months in prison. The two symbols of this conflect are the black beans used when Santa Anna ordered a decimation of the 176 remaining Texans and the goose quill, the writing instrument used by most of them in penning their letters home and making entries in their diaries.

12 Rye, Edgar w/intro by Day, James M. The Quirt and the Spur: Vanishing Shadows of the Texas Frontier
Austin, TX Steck-Vaughn Company 1967 Facsimile Edition Hard Cover Very Good Clear Mylar Ex-Library Carqueville
xvi, 363 pp, tan cloth covered boards w/red borders on the front panel w/grey illustration, w/red-grey lettering on the spine & front cover, 10 plates & frontispiece. Wild days of the cowboy and buffalo hunter around Fort Griffin, Texas, containing material on the early life of John Selman and John Larn. The author mispells Selman's name as Sillman. Griffin and Shackleford County in the early days, with plenty on early cattlemen. facsimile of Rader 2864, Howes R559, Herd 1982, Six-Guns 1923, Reese Six Score: the 120 #95 & Dobie: Guide to life and literature of Southwest p 161. stamped on ffep, bottom, top edges & title page, remnants of library card holder on the rfep, scuffed spot on spine where libr label was.
