Per Jenkins - "This is the most literate of all 19th century Texas memoirs. It is authentic history, with only a little exaggeration thrown in here and there." Duval gives an account of his capture and escape from the massacre of Fannin's command. The appendix contains "List of Men under the Command of Col. J. W. Fannin in 1835-1836."
