unpaginated pp, red papercoered boards w/black-tan printed paper labels tipped on the front cover and spine, black slipcase, #180 of 220 cc's. The letters are from the manuscripts pertaining to a duel between Senator Sargeant S. Prentiss and Gov. T. M. Tucker, both of Mississippi, in the year 1842. The challenge is in Mr. Prentiss' own handwriting and all of Governor Tucker's letters are in his own hand and are the ones received by General John A. Quitman, of Mississippi, Mr Prentiss' second in this affair. There is no historical evidence that the duel was ever fought. Lowman Printing Arts in Texas pg 24.
