56 pp, brown-white cloth covered boards w/dark brown lettering, red endpapers w/black silhouette illustrations, dj light brown w/maroon border lines and w/color illustrated front panel of the Sicilian monopolistic vender of fruit. The book is in English and French. The book captures the striking images of nineteenth century Louisiana. It has 18 full-color prints. Fremaux was civil engineer by profession that delighted in sketching scenes of his adopted Louisiana as a break from surveying & supervisory responsibilities. He was a captain of engineers during the Civil War, continued his practice of sketching everyday scenes and sometimes included his illustrations in his letters home. This is a reprint of the original. Howes F362. The dj has been laminated by previous owner.
