496 pp, 399 pp, tan leatherette boards w/gilt lettering on the spine and color illustrations on the front covers & spines, gilt endpapers w/re-blu-green color illustrations, glossy gilt-black color illustrated slipcases. The publishers were George A. Christopoulos and John C. Bastias. Volume one: the Protaton and the Monasteries of Dionysiou, Koutloumousiou, Xeropotamou and Gregoriou. Volume two: the Monasteries of Iveron, St. Panteleimon, Esphigmenou, and Chilandari. The is a corpus of coloured miniatures from Byzantine manuscripts in the monastic libraries of Mount Athos. They provide an authentic picture of hte Byzantine world. The Patriarchal Institute for Patristic Studies has made the study of the history and treausres of the Holy Mountain, one of its principle concerns. The book set was given as a gift and has 38 signatures on the verso of the ffep. The prev owner place black tape on the top & bottom of the slipcases. Volume one has had the front joint professionally repaired. This is a HEAVY book set - 16 pounds.
