Volume is an adventurours, eyewitness account of our first war in the air. In 1917 before the US entered the war, Colonel Mitchell asked for leave & wen to Europe as an observer. Much of the book is based on the diaries he kept at the time. He describes many of his own combat experiences at the front - on the ground in Marne Valley as well as in the air over the Argonne.
