Book examines the hostilities in the Black Hills region, the military details and the diplomatic environment in which they occurred. The focus expanded to include the 19th-century territorial confrontation between a high-technology great power and the low-technology tribal societies. During the 19th-century, Sioux tribes entered into relationships with the United States government that is covered in some thirty-six documents.
