The title page has full-color illustration of a youth with barbells and a statue of a lion, in white. The illustrations in the book are differend parts of the city of Paris. The Spanish Ambassador moved in next door to Madeline and the eleven little girls. Bemelmans A25a(bis) The book was the winner of the New York Herald Tribune Children's Spring Book Festival Award.

(14), 299 pp, grey buckram-covered boards w/full-color illustration of Place Vendome pasted down on the front cover, Limited edition of 400 cc's this being #397, SIGNED by author on limitation page, on the spine stamped in gold upon a rectanglar burgundy leather patch the title, contains five full-color illustrations, plus full color pastedown on the front cover and full color pastedown on the slipcase. Top, front, and bottom edges stained olive green, black slipcase with color facsimile of front cover from A34a pasted down on the front. Olive green endpapers printed in black w/an drawing of the Reina del Pacifico and crocodiles by the author. The pastedown illustration on the front cover and illustration on page 8 have illustrations of the orphans from the Madeline stories. Pomerance #34a (bis) deluxe illustrated edition. The story of a journey that an South American General, Leonidas Erosa, an elderly Ecuadoran, from his villa in Biarritz to his home in South America. He had made an honorary general by Argentina out of respect for the famous Erosa herds. The slipcase chipped along the edges, leather label discolored, the spine of the book is sunned.
