Author probes the causes of developmental impasse in a typical Mexican village. He chose Huecorio as a model of rural life in a search for factors which are symptomatic of entrenched poverety in underdeveloped regions of the world. Huecorio lies on the shores of Lake Patzcuaro, 240 miles west of Mexico City.
