xxvi, 231 pp, brown cloth covered boards w/gilt lettering, Inscribed & SIGNED by Cordia Sloan Duke and SIGNED by Joe B. Frantz. The inscription reads "With Best Wishes to Louise Kirk." A diary of reminiscences of old XIT cowmen recorded by the wife of an XIT division manager. She recorded the everyday life of the individuals who made the ranch run. The book describes the cowmen fighting prairie fires with the means at hand: dragging the split bodies of cows and bulls along the "fire line" and by all-night vigils with brooms and wet shirts. It tells of riding the trail, outwitting rustlers, frolicking, feuding, and courting. They extol the delights of the chuck wagon and the importance & prestige of the cook. small stain on front cover w/two light stains.
