x, 160 pp, blu cloth covered boards w/gilt lettering & deco on front & spine, yel illustrated endpapers, 34 tipped in color illustrations w/tissue guards w/the title of the illustration printed on the tissue guard. . Two music-dramas or operas by Richard Wagner based on old Scandinavian legends. The first "The Rhinegold" is about a hoard of gold on the bottom of the Rhine guarded by the Rhine Maidens. Alberich, the dwarf, forswears love to gain this hoard, which confers boundless powers upon its posessor. From it he makes a magic ring. "The Valkyrie" Wotan is the father of two children, Siegmund & Sieglinde, who grow up on earth in ignorance of each other, but who, by the desire of Wotan, are to mate in the interests of the coveted ring. One corner of page four repaired, slight rubbing to the corners.
