x, 402 pp, black clothcovered boards w/pastedown tan paper label on the spine and front cover w/black lettering. Biography of a Confederate general. Bedford Forrest was one of the few officers in either army to enlist as a private and be promoted to general officer and division commander by the end of the war. He had a gift for strategy and tactics and he created and established new doctrines for mobile forces, earning the nickname The Wizard of the Saddle. older version of Nevins Vol 1 - pg 35. corners have some wear, the spine label is rubbed and missing some of the letters of the title, prev owner's name and date on the ffep, hinges have been professionally repaired.
