He provides anecdotes on men he knew such as James Bowie, Sam Houston, Stephen Austin, David G. Burnet, Gail Bordern, Padre Michael Muldoon, R.M. Williamson, and others. After some lawless years, served through the War for Texas Independence & later as a Ranger. He was the blacksmith who forged the knife bearing Colonel Bowie's name.
