111 pp, brown cloth covered boards w/gilt lettering. The book provides a history of the Smoky Hill trail or the Butterfield Overland Despatch (Butterfield Trail) through Kansas. This trail was established as a route to Denver and Pike's Peak. The book contains a glossary, maps, photos, and a list of some of the towns along the route of the Smoky Hill Trail. Some of the towns were Fort Leavenworth, Atchison, Topeka, Lawrence, Manhattan, Fort Riley, Junction City, Salina, Lindsborg, Wilson, Victoria, Hays, Ellis, Quinter, Russell Springs, Sharon Springs, and others. It also has a chronologoy of events leading to the organization and decline of the B.O.D. and other freight and stage lines on the Smoky Hill Route.
