The volume contains four studies that were lectures that were given in 1928, and the fifth paper was read at a meeting of the American Historical Association (1911). The papers were titled: the Racial and Political Background, Mexican Appreciations and Defensive Precautions, Colonial Grievances, The Development of the Revolution, and Public Opinion in Texas Preceding the Revolution. The author states "The Texas Revolution was neither the culmination of a deep-laid program of chicanery and greed, nor the glorious response of outraged freemen to calculated oppression of tyrants. dj sunned spine, dj small chips along the top & bottom edges, the bottoms of some of the pages is uncut, so the book has never been read.

The most-praised of all Texas biographies per Jenkins. It has been called the finest single piece of historical writing yet done in Texas per Joe Frantz. J. Evetts Haley pronounced it "the finest biography in Texas Literature." Much of the volume is history rather than biography. Sometimes Barker fails to be objective in his support of Austin. The combination of the three cross flags was the Union Jack. The Cambridge Flag raised by Washington was the Flag of India, formed by placing the King's Colors as a union in the Flag of India. The flag adopted on June 14, 1777 has the thirteen stars aranged in a circle replacing the "King's Colors." Prev owner wrote name on ffep & on last page of text, slight curl to boards.
